Welcome to the first edition of the Old City Lowdown in exactly 12 months. After a year in the wilderness, it’s good to be back on the beat.

If you’re new here, this isn’t a travel guide or a place for outrage. Think of it as a steady local field report from America’s Oldest City.

Each week, we’ll keep watch on what matters. Good people doing good work. Gatherings worth your time. Changes shaping our streets and shoreline. The bits of history still lingering if you know where to look.

If you’ve been with us before, welcome back. This next chapter is about connection. Bringing locals together. Spending less time online and more time out in the real world where we belong.

The Old City Lowdown exists to celebrate this town, keep an eye on it, and share what’s worth knowing along the way.

Glad you’re here. Truly.

You can follow along on Instagram for additional dispatches between issues, and you’re always welcome to connect with me personally on LinkedIn as well.

THE LOWDOWN SOCIETY

I’ve been thinking about how much of life now happens online. Even in a place as historic and alive as ours, we tend to read, scroll, react, and move on. We stay informed, but we don’t always gather.

That feels like something worth changing.

So I’m kicking around the idea of the Lowdown Society.

Once a month, we’ll meet in person. A casual evening. A local joint. A drink in hand. Something interesting to learn.

Each gathering will center around a different subject: history, nature, culture, architecture, business, science, stories from people who’ve seen things firsthand. The topics won’t be limited to St. Augustine, but they will always be worth knowing.

We’ll invite someone who knows the subject well, be it a professor, naturalist, historian, builder, or observer to share for a short stretch. Then we’ll open it up. Conversation, questions, and time together.

Just curious people in a room. Good beer. New ideas.

If that sounds like something you’d show up for, let me know below ↓
